Saturday night, he won the game on the defensive end of the floor, first coming up with a steal in the backcourt that led to a subsequent bucket, and then on the next possession, rotating from the weak-side of the floor to elevate and block a shot at the rim as if he were a big man. He’s been more aggressive with his individual offense this weekend, and using that advanced understanding of the game to draw contact and get easy points at the free-throw line (he’s converted 23 of his 24 attempts through 3 games). While the playmaking for his teammates has been a constant, he’s asserted himself in additional ways depending on the circumstances of the particular game. So too has his deliberate poise and ability to process the game, as he’s been virtually toying with opposing defenses, and often times making it look easy in the process. It goes without saying that his floor vision has been impressive. Combine that with an average of 2.3 turnovers per game, and he’s got better than a 4:1 assist-to-turnover ratio, which is absolutely unheard of from a high-assist player at this age. He’s averaging over 10 assists per game so far this season and hasn’t had less than 8 in any game. The most glaring part of his game is his ability to create for others. When it comes to pure point guards, Elliot Cadeau has been in a class of his own this weekend. The most impressive stats of all were regarding his efficiency. Saturday night, it was 21, 6, and 9 in an 83-80 win over the Florida Rebels. Saturday morning it was another 22, 5, and 9 in a 96-65 blow-out win over Team WhyNot. It started on Friday night with 25 points, 5 assists, and 6 rebounds in a 74-70 win over Team Griffin. Harper not only responded with his individual production, but also in terms of leading the team to three straight wins. Harper, who is currently ranked 2nd overall in the national class of 2024, continues to make his pitch for the number one overall ranking.Īfter going 0-4 in session two, the New York Rens came into this weekend with plenty of pressure to deliver. This weekend though, that trio has set the standard, beginning with their opening games on Friday night and continuing through both games on Saturday. Well, having a big early reputation, unfortunately doesn’t always equate to being consistently impactful in a setting as competitive as the EYBL.
